The southern segment of St. Mary’s County is full of American History and waterfront compounds that fit a wide range of budgets.

Dameron, Maryland is south of Naval Air Station Patuxent River along MD Route 235 and allows commuters to break away from traffic traveling home. When seeking seclusion with large acreage, there are wonderful choices along Saint Jerome Creek that connects to the Chesapeake Bay. Dameron is known for its agricultural and watermen history.

St. Mary’s City served as the original capital of Maryland, in 1676, before the capital moved to Annapolis, Maryland in 1694. This town is conveniently located near St. Mary’s College of Maryland. This region is full of history and incredible home sites on the Saint Mary’s River and other Potomac River tributaries. St. Mary’s College of Maryland is a public liberal arts college that was established in 1840. Living by the college you will be able to experience the benefits of the events they host like the River Concert Series, which brings several thousand people to the college every Friday night in the summer.

Point Lookout is located at the southernmost point of St. Mary’s County’s along the mouth of the Potomac River. This is also the site of the Point Lookout Lighthouse that served as a Civil War prison and hospital. If haunted history is your thing, the area features haunted tours. Point Lookout is a state park with beaches, fishing spots, campgrounds, hunting, and more.
