Oxon Hill, Maryland is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) in southern Prince George’s County. The area is bounded by Interstates 95 and 495 and Brinkley Road to the north, Cherryfeild Road and Payne Drive to the east, Allentown Road, Tucker Road and Palmer Road to the south, and the Potomac River west. Over 300 acres along the Potomac River were developed into National Harbor, where resorts, shopping, restaurants and gaming are plentiful. There is even a dedicated shopping area for outlet stores from major brands.

Before the development of National Harbor, Oxon Hill attracted horse racing enthusiasts with live harness racing of Standardbred horses at Rosecroft Raceway. The racetrack opened in 1949 and hosts live and simulcast racing to this day. Golfers enjoy the public 9-hole Henson Creek Golf Course with its own putting green, driving range, and Pro Shop that is operated by the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). Beautiful Henson Creek meanders from the east to Broad Creek and finally the Potomac River to the west.

To get a feel for this area of southern Prince George’s County, one would only need to take the 12 lane Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge via Interstate 95 and 495 to cross the Potomac River into Alexandria, Virginia. The bridge having been named for the 28th President of the United States who was a native of Virginia and an early advocate for highway improvements in the U.S. If transportation by water is more of interest, the Potomac RiverBoat Company offers water taxi routes that connect Oxon Hill to Virginia and Washington, D.C.
