Hughesville, MD

Formerly a tobacco market town, Hughesville has many old tobacco warehouses that have been converted into beautiful boutiques, second-hand stores, and craft shops. Referred to as the strategic geographic center of the tri-county Southern Maryland region and hosts several headquarters for different institutions like the Southern Maryland Association of REALTORS® (SMAR), the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO), an economic development council, tri-county women’s shelter, and an animal shelter. Motorcycle enthusiasts are also drawn to the All American Harley-Davidson Dealership at the corner of Md Route 5 and Old Leonardtown Road. The Hotel Charles is another attraction where you can find live local bands playing most weekends. This town has been mostly preserved by the multi-lane bypass for MD Route 5 that was opened in 2007. The College of Southern Maryland has also seen the benefit to this location by adding their Regional Hughesville Campus that offers the Center for Health and Sciences and the Center for Trades and Energy Training.
