Southern Maryland is composed of counties on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. This region includes Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties and by extension Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. Straddling the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers, the Chesapeake Bay and many creeks, each county offers gorgeous views and water access.
The region continues to experience increased suburban development as the D.C. Area Suburbs expand southward with communities growing along the MD Routes 2, 4, and 5 corridors. Uniquely, more than three-quarters of Southern Maryland remains rural, a mixture of forest and farmland. More recently during the COVID-19 pandemic and shift to a more virtual working and distanced way of life, Southern Maryland has offered former urban residents a brand new world of space and tranquility.
Enthusiasts are attracted to the region’s many popular county fairs and festivals, events, museums, music concerts, art galleries, fine parks, farmer’s markets, and world class restaurants & wineries. Crab, oysters or rock fish can be found on just about every menu in season. Fishing, boating and crabbing are popular activities with large world class marinas dotted along the shores. The abundance of public and private marinas and boat launches satisfies all fishing and boating aficionados.
